The court was told that Borch and her Iraqi boyfriend, Bakhtiar Mohammed Abdullah, had watched beheading videos on the night of the murder and had agreed to kill Holtegaard together. However, they blamed each other for the murder during the trial, Abdullah was sentenced to 13 years'in prison for his role in the killing.
Danish media reported the teen's step-father as saying she was infatuated with ISIS, and that he feared she would become more radicalized in prison.
Borch and Abdullah have reportedly appealed to Denmark's high court over the ruling.
“Please hurry, please hurry. There is blood everywhere. There is blood all over the place,” the weeping girl told the emergency services in a recording played to the court.
During the 15-minute call, Borch claimed that she had seen a white man running away through the garden after hearing noises upstairs at their rural house in Kvissel.
After the teenager told the operator that her mother was unconscious, she was guided through the procedure for resuscitation, and apparently went along with the instructions. Police told the court that they did not believe that she was even in the same room at the time.
When the first officers arrived at the house, their suspicions were immediately aroused when they found Borch calmly sitting downstairs looking at her phone. When they asked where her mother was, she pointed upstairs.
Although she claimed to have been alone in the house, the police found fingerprints from her boyfriend in the mother’s bedroom and later a spot of Ms Holtegaard’s blood on his shirt.
Phone records showed that Borch called a taxi, believed to be for Abdullah, a minute before phoning the emergency services.
Forensic analysis later showed that Ms Holtegaard had a high level of sleeping pills in her bloodstream which Borch is believed to have slipped her during the evening.
During the case, Borch and Abdullah blamed each other for carrying out the stabbing.
As part of her sentence, Borch lost the right to any inheritance from her mother.
