Part 1 of 3: Retaining your Youth with a Healthy Lifestyle
1 Keep your body young and fit by exercising. It will make you look and feel good by giving you a youthful shape and helping you to control your weight.[1]
Physical activity tones your muscles and improves your balance and coordination.
At the same time, your body releases endorphins which will lift your mood and relax you.
For the best results, do both aerobic exercise to trim down and strength training to acquire shapely muscles.
2 Try to jog, walk, swim, or do other physical activities for 150 to 75 minutes per week and strength training, like weight lifting, a minimum of twice per week.
Don’t age your body prematurely with too much alcohol. Drinking too much can give you serious health problems that will make you look and feel old.[2]
Excessive drinking can cause cancers of the digestive tract, heart problems, strokes, high blood pressure, and liver disease.
If you do drink, daily recommendations are that women should drink no more than one drink per day and men no more than 1 to 2 drinks.[3]
3
Preserve your health by not smoking. Smoking will age your skin, reduce your stamina, and give you serious health problems. Smoking can cause:[4]
Lung diseases
Cancer of the esophagus, larynx, throat, mouth, bladder, pancreas, kidney, and cervix
Heart attacks
Strokes
Diabetes
Eye disorders like cataracts
Respiratory infections
Gum disease
Even if you’ve smoked for many years, quitting will still improve your health, let your body heal, and make you look and feel younger.
4
Protect your skin with sunscreen. Tanning, whether from natural sunlight or from a tanning bed, exposes you to ultraviolet radiation which damages your skin.[5]
Avoid wrinkles, sun damage, and skin cancer by using sunscreen when you are exposed to strong sunlight.
Spray tans have chemicals that shouldn’t be inhaled[6] and tanning pills have chemicals that can turn cause hives, liver damage, and vision problems.[7]
5
Keep the skin on your face skin smooth and elastic. Use simple care techniques to prevent pimples and help keep your skin young.[8]
Always remove your make-up before bed. This will prevent it from clogging your pores and causing pimples.
Wash your face with warm water each morning and night to remove dirt, sweat, and dust. This will keep it clean and healthy.
Apply moisturizer whenever it looks dry. Use a non-oily moisturizer so that it won’t clog your pores and cause pimples.
6
Hide gray hair with hair dye. But be sure to use a color that looks natural on you. If your hair color looks unnatural, people will realize that you are probably covering up gray hair.
Touch up your dye job regularly to prevent roots from showing.
Avoid doing too many chemical treatments on your hair, like also perming it. Otherwise it will look less full, shiny, and young.
When in doubt go to a good salon.
